In 1727, the Rajpur king moved its capital from Amer to Jaipur because of water shortages and population growth. Vidyadhar Bhattacharya was given responsibility for designing the City Palace Complex.
City Palace Architecture
The architecture of City Palace is a fusion of Rajputana, Mewar, and Mughal influences, but its predominant architectural style is Rajputana. The City Palace complex consists of palaces, pavilions, temples, and gardens. Intricate carvings, ornamental arches, and delicate mirrorwork show exquisite craftsmanship. Mewar architecture can be seen in Zenana Mahal, Manak Mahal, and Sheesh Mahal. Rajputana influence can be seen in the archways, and domes.
