History of Teej Festival

Types of Teej

There are three main types of Teej festivals celebrated in India:

Hariyali Teej:It is celebrated in northern India, especially in Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana, during Shravan. Women wear green clothes and observe a day-long fast without food or water.
Kajari Teej: This festival, Satudi Teej and Boodhi Teej, is observed by married women who pray for their husbands’ long lives. It is celebrated during the Krishna Paksha of the Bhadrapada month, three days after Raksha Bandhan. During the festival, women sing traditional folk songs called Kajri and worship the neem tree.
Hartalika Teej: Observed on the third day of the first fortnight of Bhadrapada, this festival is similar to Hariyali Teej. Women fast without food or water and pray for their husbands’ well-being. They wear green attire and pray for their husband’s well-being and a happy married life.
