History of Nehru Garden, Udaipur

The Nehru Garden in Udaipur has derived its name from the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. This park was first opened to the public on 14th November 1967.

Architecture of Nehru Garden, Udaipur

This sprawling garden has been laid out in the form of an oval-shaped island. The garden is built on the crystal clear waters of the Fateh Sagar Lake and makes for some fantastic views of the surroundings. A visit to this garden guarantees complete peace of mind and soul, as you take a walk around the flower beds, with a gentle breeze blowing over the lake. 

The grand Moti Mahal built by Rana Pratap can also be seen from this garden. The park is spread over an area of 41 acres and is one of the largest of its kind in Udaipur. The garden has beautiful flowers in diverse hues and a lily pond that is captivating.

The opening and closing timings of Nehru Garden are 9.00 am to 6.00 pm.

Entry charges are as follows –

  • INR 15 for Children

How to reach Nehru Garden Udaipur

Local buses and taxis are available throughout the city to Nehru Garden. For travelers coming by air, Udaipur is connected with Delhi, Mumbai, Surat, and Jaipur via regular flights. Maharana Pratap Airport is the main airport of Udaipur.

Udaipur Railway Station is approx. 3 km away and is linked by a good rail network with Delhi, Mumbai, and other major cities in Rajasthan. Volvo buses are also available from prominent Indian cities to Udaipur.

Note: This garden is located on an island, so the only way to reach here is by motorboats from the shores of Fateh Sagar Lake.

Things to keep in mind while visiting Nehru Garden

  • Visitors have to pay for the boat ride to Nehru Garden from Fateh Sagar Lake and vice-versa.
  • Carry food items if you do not want to eat the restaurant meal.
