Built-in the year 1902, Lalgarh Palace is one of the best architectural marvels of Bikaner. The palace was built in the memory of Maharaja Lal Singh Ji. It was built by his son, Maharaja Ganga Singh Ji. The palace boasts an amalgamation of mainly three types of architecture – Rajput, Mughal, and European. It was the brainchild of architect Sir Swinton Jacob. The excellent architectural work lures tourists from far-off corners of the world. The awestruck beauty of the palace often mesmerizes the tourists.
Attractions of Lallgarh Palace
The various features of the palace lend a breathtaking look to it. On visiting the palace, you will be able to witness the terraced lawns of the palace with the beautiful bougainvilleas. You will also come across peacocks that stroll down the lawns and outdoors. Though the palace currently serves the purpose of a hotel that has not taken away its royal splendor. In fact, it is a pleasure for the guests to stay in a hotel that is embedded with various features of the royal Rajput era.
There are also a number of other attractions in the palace. There is a well-maintained museum in the palace. It exhibits various hunting trophies and old photographs depicting the grandeur and splendor of the royal era of Rajasthan. You will also be amazed to visit the large library inside the Lalagarh palace. This library has a large collection of original Sanskrit manuscripts. These manuscripts are mostly scripted on parchments, gold, copper, and silver plaques. Visit to the palace wil truly be a lifetime experience for any tourist.
History of Lalgarh Palace
Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner built Lalgarh Palace in memory of his father, Maharaja Lal Singh, in the early 20th century. The palace was constructed between 1902 and 1926. Swinton Jacob, a British architect, designed it.
The royal family of Bikaner lived at Lalgarh Palace until 1970. It was converted into a hotel in 1972. Currently, the palace is managed by Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and is open to the public.
Architecture of Lalgarh Palace
The Lalgarh Palace was built in red sandstone. This palace combines Rajput, Mughal, and European architecture. It displays beautiful filigree and latticework. There is a museum in the palace named Sri Sadul Museum. The fort museum was built during the reign of Maharaja Sir Ganga Singh. Many interesting items are displayed in the museum, including miniature paintings, manuscripts, weapons, and a 1915 biplane. Today, the palace has been converted into a beautiful hotel. The Sri Sadul Museum houses a huge collection of books, photographs, manuscripts, and albums.
How to reach Lalgarh Palace
Lalgarh Palace is near the Bikaner Railway Station. Travelers can take a rickshaw, cab, or city bus from the railway station to reach the palace.
The Engineering College Bus Stop is the closest bus stop to the palace. The palace can be reached from here by local transportation.
Best Time To Visit Lalgarh Palace
The best time to visit Lalgarh Palace is in winter if you want to explore it thoroughly. Sightseeing is more convenient during the winter season. Summer is also a good time to visit, but try to visit in the morning or evening to avoid harsh temperatures that can ruin your experience.
