The Shekhawati region in Rajasthan consists mainly of the Sikar, Churu and Jhunjhunu districts and has a wealth of traditional arts, crafts and architecture; Shekhawati is the living carrier of the rich cultural and artistic traditions that were initiated and preserved to a large extent by the Rajput rulers in Rajasthan.

Shekhavati is famous more than anything else for its majestic havelis (palaces, mansions) that can be seen throughout the region, maintaining and belonging to a class of their own. Kaniram Narsinghdas Tibrewal Haveli Jhunjhunu is one of the best known havelis in Rajasthan.

The havelis in Shekhwati are famous for their murals and frescos. These havelis are characterized by elaborate paintings that covered every nook and corner of the walls and even ceilings at times with intricate miniature paintings depicting local lore, the life of Lord Krishna, the local heroes and even the commoners.

The Kaniram Narsinghdas Tibrewal Haveli In Jhunjhunu In India was established in 1883 by the merchant Narsinghdas Tibrewal. The Tibrewals were prosperous businessmen of Jhunjhunu.

These havelis were built mainly in the latter half of the 19th century by the rich Marwari merchants of Shekhawati, who ventured out of the state mainly to Calcutta and the north east. The lavish Havelis are fine examples of craftsmanship on part of the artisans and wealth on part of the owners. Many of these havelis have been transformed into heritage hotels while others are managed and looked after by caretakers.

The wall paintings are elaborate and bear testimony to the transition going on at that point of time in the socio historic scenario and the resultant changes in the artistic traditions as well.

One particular painting at the haveli shows a goods-train laden with livestock crossing a passenger train. Some of the frescos at the haveli are even done in gold, using gold leafs.
