Colorful and exotically varied, the culture of Rajasthan is one of the most important attractions for tourists planning a tour to Rajasthan. As varied as the topography of Rajasthan, often considered one of India’s most enigmatic provinces, a holiday in Rajasthan is made even more attractive by the varied enigma of the Rajasthan culture.

What is the Culture of Rajasthan?

Rajasthan’s culture and tradition blend traditional aspects that the state inherited from its past (Maharajas era) and the modern influences seeping in. Thus, the culture of Rajasthan is considered one of the richest ones in the world.

Language of Rajasthan

Rajasthani language is widely used in the state, along with a predominance of Hindi in certain parts of the province. The language varies as we travel around the different districts of Rajasthan, with almost every state district exhibiting its dialect and adding several new words. Striking and melodic, the Rajasthani language is a pleasure to listen to.

Music & Dance of Rajasthan

The music and dance in Rajasthan’s different districts are as varied as the different landscapes, which is also finds reflection in the various modes of folk songs and folk dances of Rajasthan. Many of these, like the Ghoomar Dance from Udaipur and Kalbeliya Dance of Jaisalmer, have enhanced the position of the culture of Rajasthan globally.

The songs of Rajasthani culture reverberate all around this desert kingdom with its wide and varied repertoire of genres. Thus, the land echoes with the soulful bhajans of Meera Bai, while the resonance of the nomadic tunes hummed by the gypsies haunts the golden sands of the desert late into the night.

Craftsmanship of Rajasthan

The artistic endeavor of the people of Rajasthan also plays an important role in promoting the culture of Rajasthan, with several varieties of paintings, handlooms, and handicrafts spreading the fame of the Rajasthani artisans not just in India but all around the world. Block Prints, Tie-Dye Prints, Bagru Prints, Sanganer Prints, and Zari Embroidery are some of the most notable examples of the art of Rajasthan, most of which have their origin in the history of Rajasthan.

Traditional Attire

Intricate designs, bright colors, mirror works, and chunky jewelry are the main elements of a Rajasthani costume. They apply to both men’s and women’s attires, keeping them closer to their tradition and cultural values. The state is sprinkled with many cultures, and the attire may vary from region to region. Men usually wear colorful turbans called pagri. In some places, they wear dhotis, and in others, pajamas. For the top, men wear kurta or a traditional dress called angrakha.

Women in Rajasthan wear colorful clothes and traditional jewelry. Also, they are seen wearing ghagras, mostly hand-printed, block printed, or dyed ghagras with a blouse called cholis.
