Guru Ka Tal Gurudwara in Agra is one of the most revered places for Sikhs. This holy place is believed to have been visited by four of the 10 Sikh Gurus. It is both a historical and religious landmark that attracts pilgrims and tourists to pay homage to the great Sikh Guru. It is considered one of the most magnificent architectural wonders of India, dating back to the 17th century. In Gurudwara, there is a sacred spot called Bhora Sahib, where Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji spent nine days imprisoned by Aurangzeb. There are intricate stone carvings and eight towers that make this Gurudwara a very popular tourist attraction. It is kept open from dawn to dusk every day. There is no entry fee to enter its premises.

History of Guru Ka Tal, Agra

It was built by Sant Baba Sadhu Singh ji Mauni In the 1970s. But The Tal (reservoir) was originally built in 1610 AD during Jahangir’s reign to collect rainwater for irrigation. Its construction was completed with the contributions and laborious efforts of Sant Sadhu Singh Mauni. A peep into the historical records will reveal that it was established at the site where Guru Tegh Bahadur surrendered to Aurangazeb, the Mughal King.

By Air: The nearest airport is Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Airport, located approximately 12.3 km from the Gurudwara. Taxis and cabs are readily available at the airport to take you to the Gurudwara.

By Train: Agra Cantt is the nearest railway station located at a distance of 10.3 km. Another nearest station is Bilochpura railway station, which is just 2.5 km away from there. The Gurudwara can be reached by auto-rickshaws, taxis, or buses from the railway station.

By Road: Gurudwara is 7.2 kilometers from the Idgah bus stand. You can reach there by bus, taxi, autorickshaw, Ola, or Uber.

Best Time & Season to Visit Guru Ka Tal, Agra

The Gurudwara can be best experienced during Sikh festivals, particularly the anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, when the this place attracts devotees and tourists. The ideal season to visit is winter, with temperatures ranging from 8°C to 25°C, making it perfect for sightseeing.

Summer months (April to June) can be extremely hot and humid, with temperatures reaching up to 45°C. The monsoon season can also be an ideal time to visit the Gurudwara. Remember that monsoons bring heavy rains that can sometimes ruin your travel experience.
