Ram Bagh Garden is one of India’s oldest Mughal gardens, located around 8 km north of the Taj Mahal. It is believed to have been designed and constructed by Emperor Babur, the first Mughal ruler, in 1526. Later, Nur Jahan, wife of Jahangir and an important Mughal empress, renovated the garden.

The Mughals are perhaps the greatest rulers in the nation’s history and the leading influences in its development. Many of the influences of this dynasty are still evident in the country today, especially in the architecture. The Mughals constructed several forts, palaces, tombs, and gardens. One of these gardens is the Rambagh Gardens in Agra.

Architecture

The Garden, also known as Bagh-i-Gul Afshan, is planned following the Charbagh pattern, which consists of four main divisions crisscrossed by paths and waterways. Water, which forms an integral part of Islam, is almost likened to life in these pleasure parks.
