Description of the Diwali Festival:

Goddess Kali is black because she incorporated the evil powers of nature and, in turn, saved human beings from a traumatic existence. Diwali is also known as Deepavali or the Festival of Lights. Naraka Chaturdasi, which is the new era of light and knowledge, Diwali is celebrated on the new moon night with lamps lighted, Varsha Pratipada, which is the beginning of the New Year or Kartikadi Vikram, and lastly the Bhaiyaduj in which sisters give a tika on their brother’s forehead which would protect them from all the evil forces of nature.

In many parts of the world, Kali Puja is celebrated with the sacrifice of animals to the Mother Goddess Kali, who is said to provide her devotees with anything they wish for in lieu of a sacrifice on the day of her worship. It has been seen in numerous cases that this incident is true, and so, even the foreigners worship the Goddess Kali and offer sacrificial worship to her. So, we may as well say, “Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear.”

It is usually celebrated on the new moon night, also known as Amavasya when the Moon is invisible. The Mother Goddess comes into the world to rescue her devotees from the evil powers. This is usually in October or November, according to the movement of the Moon.
