The Fascinating Legend
The name “Banjhakri” comes from a fascinating local legend. According to Sikkimese folklore, The First Shaman, or Jhakri, possessed extraordinary powers to control evil spirits. He would select suitable boys to train in his forest cave, and upon completion of their training, these boys would also become Jhakris with similar powers. Their wives, known as Jhakrinis, were said to eat humans according to the legend.
This cultural heritage is beautifully represented through various sculptures throughout the energy park, offering visitors insight into the rich mythological traditions of Sikkim.
