Located 5 km from the Athirappally waterfall, Vazhachal falls is one of the most popular waterfalls in Kerala. The Chalakuddy river in Chalakudy town is decorated by a garland of waterfalls that Vazhachal and Athirapalli have created. This ethereal is conveniently located inside the East Chalakudy jurisdiction and is only 5 kilometers from Athirapalli. It is 1000 feet high, gracing the impressive Sholayar mountain.

The backdrop is the River Chalakudy, which flows out in three branches, forming small islands. Around the falls are a sitting arrangement and tree shades where the visitors can relax. This rocky waterfall is a beautiful sight to savor the lush scenery and the peace that spreads all around.

Best time to visit

It is easiest to comprehend the power of the river and the waterfalls when they are completely submerged in water. So the best seasons to visit are during the monsoon and winter. Due to the low water level, the summer months of April through June are not particularly active. The winter and monsoon seasons are the best times to travel. However, traveling through a jungle can be challenging when it’s pouring heavily. So it seems to sense that the monsoon season is the most comfortable. The best time to travel is from September through October.

How to Reach

The waterfalls are located 36 kilometers from Chalakudy town. About 63 kilometers separate Cochin from Thrissur. At a distance of 30 kilometers, Chalakudy has the closest railroad station. Thrissur Railway Station is 55 km away, and Cochin Airport is 68 km away. It takes a decent 2 hours to get to the Ernakulam railway station from here. The location has excellent road connections to Chalakudy, Thrissur, and Cochin, all of which are reachable by buses or autos.

Tips

  • You’ll be walking across an uneven forest floor. Wear appropriate clothing and comfy shoes.
  • There won’t be any food or water because it’s a distant area. Therefore, come prepared.
  • Remember that you are in a woodland environment. Therefore, avoid leaving lit cigarettes and matchsticks around.
  • Keep in mind that the water is relatively shallow here. Therefore, the waterfall is accessible, but use caution because some of the rocks and boulders may be slippery.
