The Basilica of Our Lady of Dolours, known to be the tallest and most prominent church in Asia, lies in the heart of Thrissur city. This double-storeyed structure in Gothic architecture spreads over an area of 25,000 square feet. Also known as Puthan Pally, the church was consecrated in 1940 and gained the status of a Minor Basilica in 1992.

The striking feature of the architecture of the Basilica of Our Lady of Dolours is the 260-foot high Bible tower, which can be found at the back of the church. This tower is known to depict the life of Jesus Christ. Climb up to the top of the building to savor beautiful views of Thrissur city. The bible tower is open from 10:00 AM to 06:00 PM (Tuesday to Friday) and 10:00 AM to 07.30 PM on Saturdays and Sundays.

Two bell towers, 140 feet in height, adorn the front of the church. Images of various saints, wonderful mural paintings, and different scenes from the scriptures adorn the interiors of the church. The church looks well-lit with varying kinds of electric lamps. Mosaic bricks have been used in the flooring. The 100-feet high main altar is supported by an adjacently laid array of 10 altars. The musical bell in the church was imported from Germany. One of the most famous churches in Kerala, the Basilica of Our Lady of Dolours, also has a septic-cell model cemetery under the northern side of the building.
