Located around 4 km from Thekkady, on the outskirts of the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Kumily is a beautiful town that is extremely popular for its tea and spice plantations. In complete contrast to the sleepy Thekkady, the place bustles with a lot of trade and tourist activity. One of Kerala’s most important commercial and tourist centers, Kumily is also known for its abundant scenic beauty.

The place is the central bus station of the Periyar region and houses several affordable accommodation options for visiting tourists. Placed in the Periyar Valley, Kumily is also visited by devotees visiting Sabarimala.

Best time to visit Kumily

Kumily is a year-round tourist destination, but the winter is the ideal time to go. December through February are nice and temperate winter months. Kumily is fortunate to enjoy a healthy climate all year round, with an average temperature that ranges from 11°C to 28°C. Due to its tropical environment, Kumily receives a lot of rain, which contributes to the town’s lush beauty. The summer months in Kumily are from March through May, and during those months, the temperature can soar to as high as 28°C. Because Kumily experiences considerable rainfall of about 2500 mm from June to September, monsoons should be avoided.
