Situated at 3,133 m above sea level, Badrinath Dham is bounded by Nar and Narayan mountain ranges. It is one of India’s most revered pilgrimage sites and is among the Char Dhams, including Dwarka, Puri, and Rameshwaram. In addition, Badrinath shivling is among the Chita Char Dhams of Uttarakhand, including Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.

History and Legends of Badrinath Temple
It is one of the most legendary temples in the country, with numerous mythical tales. As per the legends, Lord Vishnu has performed rigorous penance here, and he was in a meditation state when the weather condition got severe. to protect him from the scorching heat, his spouse, Goddess Lakshmi, acquired the shape of a Badri tree and spread it over him. Lord Vishnu was pleased with her devotion and named the place Badri Ka Ashram.
The Badrinath temple history is an essential source of information. Adi Shankara made Badrinath a popular destination for pilgrims in the ninth century. At a cave close to the Tapt Kund hot springs, Shankara discovered the picture of Badrinarayan hidden in the Alaknanda River. The murti was relocated to the current temple by the Garhwal monarch in the sixteenth century. Due to its antiquity and avalanche damage, the temple has undergone several significant modifications. 2024 Badrinath Closure Date: On Vijayadashmi or Dussehra, the Badrinath Dham’s closing date will be revealed. On November 9, 2024 (tentative), at 3:35 p.m., the Badrinath Temple was shut down the previous year.
Badrinath Temple Aarti
Special poojas are performed on behalf of the devotees in the temple. Also, people can book poojas online on the official website of the Uttarakhand Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board (UCDDMB). The daily rituals start early, at around 4:30 a.m. with Maha Abhishek and Abhishek Pooja, and end at around 9:00 p.m. with the Shayan Aarti. The temple opens to the general public for Darshan at around 7:00 a.m. and closes between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m..
Registration for Badrinath Yatra
It is mandatory to carry a registration slip for Badrinath Yatra, which can be obtained in two modes: online and offline. Online registration can be done on the official website for Char Dham registration. Several centers are assigned in Uttarakhand for offline registration, where you must show photo identity proof. Some recognized registration centers are the Haridwar railway station, Rishikesh bus stand, Janki Chatti, Guptkashi, Phata, Uttarkashi, and Joshimath. In addition, everyone must carry a registration slip for darshan at the temple.

Best time to visit Badrinath
The best time to visit Badrinath is from May to June and September to October. Badrinath Temple opens for six months and remains closed in the winter due to heavy snowfall. The ideal season to visit Badrinath Dham is the summer and post-monsoon seasons.
Summers remain balmy and comfortable for the Yatra. In the monsoon season, the region receives heavy downpours, which cause landslides and make Yatra difficult. Post-monsoon, the area experiences cold and pleasant weather. However, the Badrinath region receives heavy winter snow, which blocks the roads, and the temple remains closed.
How to reach Badrinath
Badrinath is well connected with the major towns of Uttarakhand and cities of North India by all modes of transport. The nearest airport to Badrinath is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. Rishikesh railway station is the nearest railhead. Pilgrims can board a bus, catch a shared taxi, or hire a private cab from their respective places to Badrinath.
