Kusum Sarovar is a part of the holy pilgrimage of Govardhan Parikrama. The magnificent structure and the holy pond is said to be blessed by Lord Krishna and Radha. Devotees come here to seek their blessings.
 
In honor of the divine site, Jawahar Singh- the king of Bharatpur built cenotaphs on an ornamented plinth in the late 18th century. The magnificent building is known to have a replica of Lord Krishna and Radharani’s feet. The interiors and ceilings of the monument are decorated with beautiful artwork.

There are paintings illustrating the lives of Lord Krishna and Radha. Some other paintings recreate historical events of the royal family of Bharatpur. This holy site has an extensive beautiful garden with a variety of flowering plants. The water reservoir is also known as Sumana Sarovar. At Kusum Sarovar, devotees bathe in the pond. It has steps on all sides that lead to the reservoir.

The Legend

Radharani used to spend her time here with her sakhis and Lord Krishna on the Kund Ghats.
 
Another tale narrates that after a bath in the holy Sarovar and with the blessings of Yogmaya Devi, Narada Muni took the form of a Gopi to spend time with his beloved Lord.

There is also a legend, which states that the saint Ashtavakra performed his penances at the kund, while awaiting Lord Radha and Krishna. It is also said that Lord Chaitanya, the musical ascetic and devotee of Radha-Krishna also bathed in the waters of the Sarovar. The holy shrine attracts devotees to witness the past lives of the Lord.

Best Time to Visit:

The best time to visit Kusum Sarovar is during winters. From the month of October to the month of March, devotees flock here to bathe in the waters and admire the blooms.

Attractions

Radha Kund –  The holy pond of Radha-Shyama is at a distance of 2 km from the Sarovar. It is another important stop on a Govardhan pilgrimage.
Lalita Mohana Temple – The holy temple on the banks of the Radha Kund is a place for worship. Devotees seek blessings at the temple.
Govardhan Hill – At a short distance from the Kusum Sarovar, Govardhan Hill is worth a visit.

How to Reach

Kusum Sarovar is located in Vrindavan and is easily reachable.

By Air: The closest airport to reach Vrindavan is Agra Airport at a distance of 22 km. However, for international flights, one has to arrive at Delhi Airport. From the airport, you can cover a 168 km distance by cab or board a train to Vrindavan.

By Rail: The closest railway station to reach Vrindavan is in Mathura. Frequent trains ply from Delhi and other cities of India on the route. The railway station is 9 km (approx.) from Govardhan and can be reached by taxi or cab.

By Road: Vrindavan is well-connected with roads from cities all over India. Devotees can easily reach through Yamuna Expressway or board buses or cabs to reach this place.
