Adam’s bridge is one such bridge which is vast stretch of chain of shoals (a sandbar within the body of water totally composed of sand, silt and small pebbles), surrounded by a shallow sea between the islands of Mannar and Rameswaram. The bridge offers a picturesque view and attracts number of visitors from all parts of the globe. It is one of the perfect places to enjoy scenic nature and its magical ambience.
Also popular as the Rama’s bridge or Rama Setu, the Adam’s Bridge is associated with the Indian Sanskrit epic Ramayana. The bridge was made by the Vanara (ape men) to rescue Lord Ram’s companion Devi Sita. The bridge is roughly 48km long separating Gulf of Mannar from Palk Strait. The bridge is also famed as the ‘Sethusamudram’, the ‘Sea of the Bridge’; sea separating India and Sri Lanka.
