It is a memorial statue of Thiruvalluvar, a Tamil poet.

The Thiruvalluvar statue in Kanyakumari is approximately 95 ft. and stands on 38 ft. pedestal; representing wealth and pleasure. This combined height of statue and its base is 133 ft and has an interesting fact behind. According to past times, Thiruvalluvar wrote Thirukural (important works in Tamil language), expressing his philosophy.

Later, Thirukural was divided into three main sections- Wealth, Love and Virtue. The Kural couplets are arranged in 133 chapters and each chapter contains 10 couplets. Therefore, the total height 133ft. denotes the 133 chapters of Kural.
