Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga Aurangabad

Grishneshwar jyotirlinga is considered as the 12th and the last jyotirlinga among all. The meaning of this jyotirlinga is referred to as the lord of kindness. The Grishneshwar temple is built with beautiful red and black stones. It is a 5 storied Shikhara style construction (mountain peak style). The temple is situated in the Verul village near UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ellora caves. The temple is also known as Dhushmeshwar Temple.

Legend-

Earlier there was a spiritual woman named Kusuma, a strong believer of Lord Shiva. She used to worship 101 lingas, and liquidate them in the nearby lake as part of her regular devotions. However, her husband’s first wife (who was also her sister) got jealous of her and killed Kusuma’s son.

A sorrowful and depressed Kusuma continued worshipping Lord Shiva. Gratified by her prayers, Shiva returned her son’s life. Shiva asked her to take another boon. On her request, Shiva manifested himself there itself as Ghrishneshwar Jyotirlinga.
