Ladakh is the land of passes and the enchanting natural beauty. It is surrounded by the mighty Himalayas and the Karakoram Range, emanating pristine beauty. It is a cold desert mountainous area that draws one to its terrains and the long stretching treeless meadows. Amidst these picturesque locales are seated numerous villages and one among them is Alchi. Tour to Alchi will take you to one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh.
Alchi Gompa of Ladakh is at a distance of 67 km from Leh. It is known for the beautiful wall paintings dating back to 1000 A.D. and Rinchen Zangpo built it. The wall paintings in Alchi Monastery are of great artistic expertise and depict the spiritual ideals of Buddhism and Hinduism in the lives of the Kings of Jammu and Kashmir.
Alchi Gompa comprises temples of Rinchen Lhakhang at Lotsa Lhakhang, Jamyang Lhakhang (Manjusri temple) and the Sumtsag Lhakhang. There are a number of Buddhist images and statues in the monastery, which are the major attraction of the gompa. The main image is that of Vairocana. The paintings in the monastery reflect the Indian style.
On your tour to Alchi, you can spot monks in maroon robes silently climbing their way to the lamayuru monastery. The snow-covered peaks that surround the village are enthralling and uplift your spirits to goad you into a trekking trip. Many mountaineers scale the peaks that reach out to the azure skies on their tour to Alchi Ladakh.
Located on hillocks or steep mountain tops against the azure skies, Alchi is spectacular to behold the house of God. With prayer flags fluttering along the mountain edges, fresh and pure air blows into the Himalayan Kingdom, adding to its beauty. A tour to Alchi can be a wonderful experience on a Ladakh trip. However, the best time to visit Ladakh is from June to September every year.
You can plan to visit Alchi with the Ladakh tour package. These holiday packages are customizable and you can modify the itinerary according to the requirements. Contact our travel experts for more information and book a tour with us!
