Well-known for its serene ambience, Munroe Island is one of the most popular tourist spots of Kollam in Kerala. The lush greenery of the place makes every traveler relax and enjoy like never before. The island is named in the memory of Colonel Munroe, the British resident of erstwhile Travancore state.

The enchanting island is formed on the backwaters of Ashtamudi Kayal and Kallada River. The island boasts several criss-cross canals, zig-zag water channels, and well-maintained coconut farms. You can also spot some colorful feathered migratory birds.

The Munroe Island in Kollam is best known for its coir making – you can see some village ladies busy making coir ropes by hand. Also, you get to see how the coconut oil is extracted from “copra” dried coconut.

Visitors here can experience a country craft cruise on a backwater island village, offered by District Tourism Promotion Councils (DTDC). The best time to be at Munroe Island is from August to March.
