Tipu Sultan’s Palace in Bangalore

Recognized largely for its exquisite Indo-Islamic architecture and its wonderful teak structure, The Tipu Sultan’s Palace is an amazing tourist destination to visit. The palace was used by Tipu Sultan as his summer residence. Its construction was started by his father Hyder Ali and was completed during Tipu’s reign in 1791.

Located near the crowded city market, at the junction of Krishna Rajendra Road and Albert Victor Road, the structure is beautifully bedecked with exquisite ornamental frescos, arches, balconies, motifs etc. The palace is one of the most notable structures in the city.

The Sultan used to call this place as his “Abode of Happiness”. There are beautiful window screens with well-maintained paths and gardens leading one to the palace. Filled with a unique peaceful ambience, one can hear sweet sounds of birds chirping and a cool breeze blowing within the palace gardens. Furthermore the gardens are decorated with exquisite flower beds and fountains. After Tipu Sultan’s death, the palace was used as Secretariat by the British.

A part of the palace has now been converted into a museum which exhibits many different artifacts from that glorious era. Also various other paraphernalia related to Sultan, such as his clothes and crown have also been kept. The fort is well-preserved and maintained, and attracts a large number of tourists round the year.
