Baltal Valley is a destination that serves as a camping area for pilgrims heading toward the Amarnath Caves. It is situated at an altitude of 2743 meters above sea level and 15 km from Sonamarg, offering beautiful views of snow-capped mountains. The valley is set at the base of Zojila Pass, along the banks of the Sindhi River. Amarnath Caves are located at a distance of 14 km from Baltal Valley, which is dotted with pilgrim tents during the Amarnath Yatra. Ponies are available from the valley to reach Amarnath Caves. Pilgrims are offered free langars at the valley. In addition, there are a large number of small tea stalls around the valley.

Baltal Valley experiences pleasant summers and chilly winters. Baltal is only open for six months, from April to September, as the climate is quite cozy & delightful during this time. Also, during this time, the famous famous Amarnath Yatra takes place.
