The Dogra Art Gallery lures every visitor with its unique collection of paintings. Located in the Pink Hall of the Mubarak Mandi Palace Complex, this art museum is a rich repository that displays rare pictures possessing immense artistic value. More than 800 paintings belonging to different art schools have found their place in this exquisite collection at the Dogra Art Gallery. The various schools whose images have found a proud place in this treasure trove are Basohli, Jammu and Kangra. These charming miniature paintings are indeed priceless. They are not merely a treat to the eye but also provide valuable insight into the people’s way of living. Hence, a lot is revealed about them. It would be no exaggeration to say that each picture has a story to narrate for the insightful observer. Other than paintings, there are various objects in the Dogra Art Gallery. These exhibited artifacts are also fascinating and appealing. They include exquisite sculptures, terracotta figures, and heads of terracotta figures that date back to the 16th century. A bull torso excavated from Babor, a small hamlet on the outskirts of Jammu city, also finds its place in the Dogra Art Museum. It is believed to belong to the 10th century. Amongst the other precious possessions in the Dogra Art Gallery, the gold-plated bow and arrow of Mughal Emperor Shahjahan deserve a special mention. Valuable handwritten Persian manuscripts of Shahnama and Sikandarnama are also featured in the list. Inscriptions on a stone plate written in the Taki script can also be sighted when you visit the Dogra Art Gallery. Carpentry tools are an essential part of the exhibit. The Dogra Art Gallery is open in the winter from 10.30 AM to 4.30 PM. During summers, the museum is open from 8: 00 AM to 1.30 PM. It remains closed on Mondays.
