The history of Koriya states that the place is primarily dominated by the several tribes who reside here since times immemorial and consider this as their birthplace. Koriya is a district in the Northern region of Chhattisgarh in India. Koriya is the administrative center of the Koriya district.
History of Korea is traced back to the 16th century. Prior to this time period much cannot be said about the place.
Koriya was an important princely state during the British reign in India. As per Koriya’s history it is also said that after Independence of India from the British rule in the year 1947, the rulers of Koriya and Chang Bhakhar, another princely state located near by, complied with the Indian Government. Since then Koriya has been a part of the Surguja District in Madhya Pradesh.
According to the recorded history of Koriya, it is seen that the District of Koriya gained a separate identity of its own and came into existence as an independent state in the year 1998, on May 25. Chhattisgarh as a state was carved out of Madhya Pradesh in the year 2001, on November 1st, and since then Koriya stands as an independent district in Chhattisgarh.
The historical background of Koriya states that there are three main tribal communities that reside in this state. The original tribes which inhabited Korea were the Gonds, Kols and Bhuinhars. All other communities that reside in the district have migrated from other parts of the state. History of Koriya in Chhattisgarh in India shows that there was continuous migration into Koriya. The migrant communities comprises of the Cherva, Ahir, Sahu, Gwalas, Rajwars, Gadaria, Oraon, Basods, Bargah, Koir, Kahars, Kunbi, Kewats and many others.
