The festival of Torgya 2023 is celebrated in Arunachal Pradesh every year on the 28th day of the 11th month of the lunar calendar. The Togya Festival is celebrated at Tawang Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh. Mainly a monastic festival, Torgya Festival is celebrated for three full days.
About Torgya Festival in Arunachal Pradesh
This three days long Torgya Festival began with the recitation of religious texts and Monastic dances on the premises of Tawang Gonpa. During the festival, a monastic ritual dance called Chham is performed by traditionally attired monks in cham-lang, the courtyard of the Tawang Monastery. In addition, a propitiation (Torgya) rite of Yamactaka Chak Khar Zur Gurpa is conducted, and with this connotation, the festival is called “Torgya.” One of the event’s major highlights is the offering of Torma to the bonfire, which symbolizes the destruction of evil.
