This three days long Torgya Festival began with the recitation of religious texts and Monastic dances on the premises of Tawang Gonpa. During the festival, a monastic ritual dance called Chham is performed by traditionally attired monks in cham-lang, the courtyard of the Tawang Monastery. In addition, a propitiation (Torgya) rite of Yamactaka Chak Khar Zur Gurpa is conducted, and with this connotation, the festival is called “Torgya.” One of the event’s major highlights is the offering of Torma to the bonfire, which symbolizes the destruction of evil.
