Placed 16 miles north-eastwards of Guntur city, the tiny town of Amaravathi lies on the banks of River Krishna. It is a popular historical town of the Andhra Pradesh state and is also a pilgrimage site for Hindus as well as Buddhists. Though the attractions here are fewer but are famed all across, making them highly-visited. Amareshwara temple, Buddhist Stupa and Archeological Museum are the top tourist attractions in Amaravathi, which are worth-visiting. While the place itself gets its name from Amareshwara or Amaravati temple, the Mahachaitya stupa belongs to the 2nd century. Also, the banks of Krishna River are a popular picnic spot.
