At a time when the Talayatala Ganpati temple was built, the sand which came out while excavating the lake was kept aside. Later, the Peshwas planted trees at this place. With the passage of time, when Pune Municipal Corporation came to life, it constructed a garden in addition to a Zoo at this site and christened it as Peshwe Udyan. This zoo plays host to a wide variety of animals, both big and small. You can also sight quite a few species of birds at this place.
