Located in the High Ranges of the Western Ghats, Eravikulam National Park stretches over an area of 97 square kilometers. The undulating landscape, the rolling plateau and the high peak of Anamudi comprise to make the Wildlife Sanctuary home for many different kinds of animals.
Shrubs, grasslands, and forests are the three different species of plants are found in the Wildlife Sanctuary area. The grasslands cover the hills and the high altitude regions.Shrubs cover the low lying cliffs and the valleys are cover by forests.
Flora in Eravikulam National Park
Flora in Eravikulam National Park is a peculiar combination of temperate and tropical grasslands. Different kinds of orchids and balsams are the predominant flowers of the region. Neelakurunji is the mass flowering of the shrub that has a 12 years life cycle.
Over 100 different kinds of butterflies are known to be found here. Species of flycatchers, laughing thrush, Nilgiri Pipit, and white bellied Short wing are also found in the Eravikulam National Park.
