Originally a part of the tea plantation near Munnar, in 1978, Eravikulam was declared as a wildlife sanctuary. It was established to protect and conserve Nilgiri Tahr, endangered specie of wild goat.
Climate in Eravikulam National Park

The region receives heavy rainfall not only between June and August which are the monsoon months but all through the year. Summer months of the region are between April and May.
