Located in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, Nalagarh was founded by Raja Ajay Singh in 1100 AD, the gateway to the beautiful Himachal Pradesh. Today, Nalagarh is fast emerging as an industrial town as it hosts production of leather, steel, thread mills, chemicals and breweries. The growth of art and architecture in Nalagarh was patronized by Chandela Rajputs. The Nalagarh valley is famous for its fortified place and its brilliant wall paintings. One can see ruins of many forts sprinkled around the valley such as Ramgarh Fort, Surajupur Fort, Malaon Fort and Chamba Fort.

Nalagarh Fort

One of the major tourist attractions in Nalagarh, Nalagarh Fort is the first fort built by the kings of Jaipur. It is perched on a hillock at the foothills of the mighty Himalayas. The fort is a five-storied building and rises above a 20 acre forest estate containing orchards. The palatial complex has a series of structures built on the principles of Mughal architecture.

Ramgarh Fort

A massive complex built around 350 years ago; Ramgarh Fort is a heritage hotel built by the same person who commissioned the construction of Khajuraho temples-Kushal Singh, a descendant of the Chandela Rajput rulers. The interiors of this fort complex are exquisitely designed with mirror mosaics and Latticework. There is a restaurant which serves Indian vegetarian and Continental cuisines along with non-alcoholic beverages.

Yadavindra Gardens

Located at the foothills of the mount Shivalik, Yadavindra Gardens, with seven downward terraced lawns, is a Mughal style garden built by Nawab Fadai Khan in the 17th century. The garden was designed in the classic pattern of ‘Charbagh’ with a middle watercourse. The garden comprises of shaded cool pathways, a small Japanese garden and a mini zoo suitable for children and lighted fountains. This garden is the site of Baisakhi and Mango Festival that takes place in the months of April and June.

Gobind Sagar Lake

Gobind Sagar Lake has emerged as one of the most important spot for boating and water sports. It has been named after the Sikh Guru Gobind Singh and offers a wide range of facilities and training courses for water sports such as swimming and boating. On the other hand, Ropar Barrage is an ideal location for boating.
