Forsterganj- A British Establishment
Named after the British officer, Major Henry Forster, Forsterganj is located in the eastern part of Jhunjhunu. It is the headquarters of the Shekhawati brigade. Forster established a temple, a white & green Jama Masjid and set up a stone tablet in this town.
Badalgarh Fort
Built by Nawab Fazal Khan, in the end of the 17th century, Badalgarh Fort is one of the most popular forts in the Shekhawati region. It was basically built as a stable for the protection of horses and camels. Besides offering scenic views of the surrounding areas, the fort has three tombs of the Kaimkhani Nawabs. The tomb of Nawab Samas Khan is situated in the east, the tomb of Bhawan Khan is situated in the west and the tomb of Rohella Khan, a solid block capped by a dome, is situated in the north.
Khetri Mahal
Also known as the Wind Palace, built in the year 1770, The Khetri Mahal is known for its architectural brilliance. The Palace was built by Bhopal Singh, the grandson of Sardul Singh and the founder of Khetri. The palace comprises of large halls with pillars & arches, which facilitates maximum flow of air through the building. Hawa Mahal, built by Sawai Pratap Singh of Jaipur, served as an inspiration for Khetri Mahal.
Zorawargarh Fort
Built by Zorawar Singh, Zorawargarh Fort is a palatial complex that consists of numerous buildings and the Zenana Complex. Although most part of the fort is available in ruins, the better parts are used for housing government offices and the town jail.
Ganeriwal Haveli
Situated in Mukundgarh, at a distance of 28 kilometer from Jhunjhunu, Ganeriwal Haveli is a beautiful Marwari mansion built in the 19th century and known for its richly decorated frescoes painted on the wall. Besides frescoes and mural paintings, this place is also known for its intricately carved façade on the exterior. Some of the murals represent the stories from mythological epics such as Mahabharata and Bhagvada Gita.
