A small town, located on the Shimla-Kalka highway, Barog serves as a base for tourists travelling to Shimla. Of late, tourism in Barog has now grown to a large extent, making it an important tourist destination. The town of Barog is the perfect place for enjoying a great picnic amidst lush green beauty. The town is named after a British architect, Colonel Barog, who was assigned a task to build a tunnel near Railway Station. He could bear the humiliation of failure and thus committed suicide. His grave is located near the tunnel. The Renuka Lake, situated in proximity to Barog, is a famous tourist hot-spot in the region and is named after goddess Renuka.

Located around 3 kilometers from the railway station, Grave of Barog belongs to Colonel Barog, who was given the responsibility of constructing a tunnel. But eventually he failed and committed suicide due to the guilt of failure. Today, it is a famous tourist attraction and also encompasses a garden.


Choor Chandani Peak

A popular tourist attraction in Barog, Choor Chandani Peak is surrounded by pine trees and is located at an altitude of 3,650 meters above sea level. During the moonlit night, the peak gives an impression of various silver bangles sliding down the slope. Therefore, it is known as Choor Chandani and Choordhar mountains.



Bon Monastery

Located around 5 kilometers away from Barog on the Narag-Sarahan road, Bon Monastery is an important Buddhist pilgrim site built in the year 1969.  Since it was under the control of the Yungdrung Bon Monastic Center, the monastery is also known as ‘Yungdrung Bon Monastery’.


Spencer Restaurant

A popular eating place in town, Spencer Restaurant is one of the oldest eating joints and also offers panoramic views of the surrounding region. Vegetable cutlet is the specialty of this restaurant.
