The weather in Kedarnath in January remains the coldest of the year. In January, the tour to Kedarnath is not possible due to the heavy snowfall. The temple remains closed this month and it is not allowed to trek to the temple. The average temperature in Kedarnath in January ranges between -13⁰C and -2⁰C. Due to heavy snow showers, the roads get blocked till Sonprayag and Gaurikund, from where the trek to Kedarnath starts.

Kedarnath Temperature in February

In this month also, Kedarnath remains covered with snow. The weather remains inhospitable and tough for the visitors. Pilgrims cannot visit the temple to seek blessings as the temple door remains closed. Due to heavy snowfall, the roads to Kedarnath get blocked in the winter season. The average temperature at Kedarnath in February remains -11⁰C to -0.5⁰C.

Kedarnath Temperature in March

The weather in Kedarnath in March remains cold and chilly. The temperature ranges from -8⁰C to 3⁰C in March in Kedarnath. Then, the climatic conditions started to change and days became sunny. In this month, Kedarnath Temple along with Char Dham Yatra closes for the pilgrims. Mostly, Diwali and Bhai Dooj fall in this month and temple doors get closed for devotees after a grand procession. Lord Shiva’s idol and other presiding deities transfers to the Omkareshwara Temple in Ukhimath. A large number of devotees take part in this procession or Doli Yatra in Kedarnath, which offers a perfect opportunity to get glimpses of the rich cultural heritage of the region.

In December, the Kedarnath region started to experience tough climatic conditions. Due to heavy snow showers, the region gets covered with a thick blanket of snow. The temple doors remain closed this month and no one is allowed to go beyond Gaurikund this month. The temperature in Kedarnath in December hovers from -12⁰C to -2⁰C. Owing to heavy snowfall, the region remains cut off from the rest of the state for almost six months.
