Faizabad is a city in Uttar Pradesh which is located on the left bank of the Ghaghara River. The nawabi culture of the city has given Faizabad an identity of its own. The Fort Calcutta built by Shuja-ud-daulah is a must-visit place for all the tourists who are on a tour to Faizabad. Shuja–ud-daulah who resided here in this fort till his death and his wife continued to stay here even after Shuja-ud-daulah’s death.

The fine architecture of the Mausoleun of Shuja-ud-daulah is famous for the intricacies that are laid on the pillars and the walls. This Mausoleum was built in the year 1775. The building stands amidst the beautiful garden surrounding the Mausoleum adds to the beauty of the building. At a distance of 2.5 kilometers stands The Mausoleum of Bahu Begam. The three tombstones in the Mausoleum of Shuja-ud-daulah are those of the king, Shuja-ud-daulah, his father and mother. An Imambara and a mosque are also present in the same campus.

The Mausoleum of Bahu Begum is considered only one of its kinds in the whole of Awadh. This Mausoleum is built of white marble and is 42m in height.

The other tourist attractions in Faizabad are the museums and temples. The Chakra Harji Vishnu Temple bears the imprint of the Lord Rama’s feet. Another temple is the Raja Mandir, Faizabad.
