Located on the banks of the River Saryu, the city of Ayodhya is one of the oldest cities in the country. Apart from its legendary association with Lord Ram, the famous epic hero whose reign over Ayodhya is eulogized to this day, it is also well known for the fairly large number of temples that it is home to. The Holy Places in Ayodhya are visited not only by religious-minded Hindu devotees but also by tourists on Tours to Ayodhya.

One of the best-known Holy Places in Ayodhya is the Hanuman Garhi. This shrine is highly revered to by the localities as well as by the outsiders. People believe that all their wishes will surely be granted if a visit is paid to this cave temple. Apart from the belief factor, it is well worth a visit also because of its architecture. Shaped like a fort, it is indeed an imposing structure that stands as a good example of the commendable architectural dexterity of our craftsmen. Climb up the 76 steps to witness this temple located right in the heart of the city of Ayodhya.

Yet another of the Holy Places in Ayodhya located in close proximity to the Hanuman Garhi is the Kanak Bhavan Temple. Even though the present structure is believed to have been built by Rani Krishnabhanu Kunwari of Orccha, it has a mythical legend associated with it which says that it was built in honor of Sita by Kaikey. The structure is pretty impressive but what mesmerizes even more are the idols of Lord Rama and Krishna housed in the temple. They make a very pretty picture being adorned with gold crowns.

Nageshwarnath temple is yet another of the famous Holy Places in Ayodhya. Believed to have been built by Raja Kush, the younger son of Lord Rama, it is a very splendid structure that has stood the test of times. The place where the Babri Masjid existed is also considered by many to be the spot where Lord Rama was born. Apart from these places, there are many lesser-known Holy places in Ayodhya that you can also visit. Despite being a popular tourist destination year-round, the best time to visit Ayodhya is from October to March when the weather is pleasant.
