Itinerary Detail

Day 1: Arrive Kolkata

Your Kolkata Darjeeling Gangtok itinerary starts from Kolkata. Get assistance with pick up from Railway Station/ Airport and transfer to the hotel.

Check in to the hotel and relax for some time. Later, freshen up and proceed for sightseeing in the ‘City of Joy’. Kolkata has been the most glorious city in East India. The cultural, historical, and charming city was a major hub in the British Raj and to date is a fascinating metropolis.

Start with a visit to the holy Kalighat Kali Temple. The famous temple of the banks of the River Hooghly (the name of the River Ganges in Kolkata) is dedicated to the goddess Kali. This is one of the 51 Shakti Peetha, where the right toe of Dakshayani Sati is said to have fallen here.

Considered as one of the Holiest of Hindu Pilgrimage Centres, the temple sees the footfall of thousands of devotees every day. However, Tuesdays and Saturdays are considered very auspicious, and the crowd increases a hundred folds on these two days.

After the divine blessing, pay a visit to the Alipore Zoo. Explore the zoo and spot some of the exotic species of flora and fauna. The evening is free at leisure. You can choose to visit the Victoria Memorial and its lush gardens or take a ferry ride on the River Hooghly, awe at the Howrah Bridge on your own. You can also plan an outing to the vibrant markets of Kolkata to get your hands on some wonderful bargains or savor the mouthwatering street flavors, Bengalis sweets, and specialties of Bengali cuisine.

Return to the hotel for overnight stay.

Day 2: In Kolkata

Start the day with breakfast at the hotel, after which you can proceed for 2nd-day full day sightseeing of Kolkata.

Start with taking blessings of the Dakshineswar Kali Temple. Situated on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River, the presiding deity of the temple is Bhavatarini, a form of Goddess Kali, the name means, 'She who liberates her devotees from the ocean of existence i.e. Sa?s?ra'. Of note is the temple architecture dating back to 1855. The Rani Rashmoni, a philanthropist and a devotee of Kali built the temple for devotees. The temple is also famous for its association with the 19th century mystic in Bengal, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.

Later, pay a visit to the Belur Math, the holy headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission. Founded on the banks of the Hooghly River, the holy organization was founded by Swami Vivekananda, the chief disciple of Ramakrishna. Next, pay a visit to the Howrah Bridge. The icon of Kolkata, the bridge on the River Ganges is a beautiful sight. The next stop of the day is the Indian Museum, the oldest museum in India that displays a wide variety of exhibitions. Next, stop and visit the Mother House. Last but not the least, pay a visit to the Victoria Memorial Hall. The grand monument dates back to the British Raj and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city.

The rest of the evening is free at your leisure. You can choose to go shopping and try savory street food.

Get back to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Kolkata – Bagdogra – Gangtok

The 3rd day of your tour includes transfer from Kolkata to Gangtok. After breakfast check out from the hotel. Get assisted with timely transfer to Kolkata Airport to connect the flight for Bagdogra (IXB). Bagdogra Airport is the closest air terminal to North East India, especially Gangtok and Darjeeling. Upon arrival at the airport, get assisted pick up and drive to Gangtok.

From Bagdogra, Gangtok is almost 120 km which is a 5-6hours drive. On arrival in Gangtok, check in to the hotel. The rest of the day is free as your own. You can choose to explore on your own.

Day 4: In Gangtok

Start the day with breakfast at the hotel. Later, proceed for a day trip to Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir, the highlights of the 4th day of the Gangtok tour that takes almost 2 hours’ drive. Also known as Changu Lake, this glacial lake is a popular tourist attraction and is located on the road towards the Nathula pass. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the beautiful lake and the mountains all through your drive. Optional tour to Nathula Pass (Alt 14000Ft.) which is situated near the China Border can also be arranged (except Mon & Tue or bad weather days) for Indian Nationals only at an additional cost.

The next stop on your sightseeing excursion is Baba Mandir. The shrine is built in the memory of a brave Indian soldier, Harbhajan Singh who died during the war near the Nathula Pass and is worshipped as a local deity.

Later, return to Gangtok. The evening is free for shopping activities. Shop at the popular M G Marg & Lal Bazar (foreign-style local market of Gangtok) where you can buy Canvas Wall Hangings, Thangkas, Woolen Carpets, Traditional Folding Tables, Tea, Sikkimese Traditional Dress, local Fruit Juices, etc.

Day 5: Gangtok – Darjeeling (115 km. / 4 Hrs.)

Start the day with breakfast at the hotel. On the 5th day of the tour, leave for half-day sightseeing of Gangtok (8:30 AM - 12:30 PM). Start with a visit to the Banjhakri Falls. Pay a visit to the local Cottage Industry to learn about the local handicrafts and the skilled craftsmanship. Learn about the heritage of Tibetan Buddhists in the Dro-Dul Chorten Stupa, an ancient monastery and the Institute of Tibetology. Last stop of the day is the Flower show and Handicraft Centre.

In the afternoon get assistance with the drive from Gangtok to Darjeeling. On arrival in West Bengal’s most beautiful hill station, check in to the hotel. The rest of the day is free to spend at your leisure. You can choose to explore the town of your own, stroll through the markets or enjoy the mouthwatering dishes.

Day 6: In Darjeeling

Start the day very early in the morning. The day is scheduled for the Darjeeling sightseeing tour. Leave for watching the sunrise at Tiger Hill. The view of the sun lighting up the Mt. Kanchenjunga and the other snow-covered peaks of the Himalayas is spectacular. It is a major attraction amongst the tourists to truly enjoy the beauty of the hill station.

Later, have your breakfast and get ready for some sightseeing. Pay a visit to the Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park (Closed on Thursday). The incredible zoo is home to some rare high altitude Himalayan species like Snow leopard, clouded Leopard, Siberian Tiger, Red Panda, and many rare mammals and birds in the natural surroundings.

Next, pay a visit to the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (Closed on Thursday). The love for the mountains only deepens when you get to see the priceless collection of mountaineering gears used by legendary climbers in the Himalayas.

After that, visit the Tea garden spread on the valleys of Darjeeling. Adding to the beauty in the lush tea estates. Besides, enjoying the scenery, learning about the process of tea plucking and processing.

Later in the day, pay a visit to the Ghoom Monastery. The ancient monastery of Darjeeling is a revered shrine of Buddhism. The charming Batasia Loop is a scenic wonder besides being an architectural marvel. Watch the Darjeeling Toy Train slowly and steeply make its way to the mountains.

Also visit the Japanese Temple dedicated to Lord Buddha, constructed in 1972. In the favor of the divine powers, you may be able to witness the puja at the time of your visit. Nearby is also the Peace Pagoda which has 4 avatars of Buddha, in the postures of sleeping, sitting, standing, and meditating. Also, pay a visit to the Tibetan Refugee Self Help Center, known for the production of Tibetan handicrafts, established on 2 October 1959, after the refugees followed the Dalai Lama and escaped from Tibet.

In the afternoon, leave to enjoy shopping on your own at the local market like Ghoom Monastery Market, Batasia Loop Market, and Chowk Bazaar where you can buy Hand knitted items, cheap electronics, Handicrafts & Souvenirs, and Woolen clothes. Spend the evening at Mall Road.

Get back to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 7: Darjeeling – IXB Airport/ NJP Railway Station (80 km. / 3 Hrs.)
