Legend of Amarnath Yatra
It is said that when Ma Parvati, Lord Shiva's consort, insisted on knowing the secret of the lord's immortality, Lord Shiva finally gave in. So, to narrate the Amar Katha (Story of immortality), Lord Shiva, along with Ma Parvati, started searching for a place where no living things could dwell so that he could narrate the story.
Thus Lord Shiva started his journey from Pahalgam, where he left his 'vahana' (vehicle) Nandi, at Chandanwari, he discarded the moon; upon reaching Sheshnag, he left behind his snake, and he left behind his son Ganesha at Mahaguna Parvat. Finally, at Panjtarni, he let go of the five elements, and thus he arrived at the cave.
In the cave, Lord Shiva created Rudra Kalagni and ordered him to destroy any living thing near a cave with divine fire. Thus, after making sure that any living being could not hear the Amar Katha, the lord began to narrate the story to Ma Parvati. Interestingly, the fire saved two pigeon eggs lying beneath the deerskin upon which lord Shiva was sitting. Unfortunately, Ma Parvati fell asleep in the middle of the story, but the two eggs hatched, overheard the entire Amar Katha, and became immortal. Amarnath Yatra by Helicopter is not just a pilgrimage. Instead, a journey of faith leads you one step closer to Lord Shiva.
