About Basilica of Bom Jesus
Consecrated in May 1605, the Basilica of Bom Jesus is considered one of the best examples of baroque architecture combining elements of Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian design. This church depicts the old world charm of the colonial Portuguese era owing to its architectural beauty. Basilica of Bom Jesus is the first minor basilica of India. Holding the mortal remains of Saint Francis Xavier, Basilica of Bom Jesus is among the most iconic religious structures of Old Goa. This monument is typical of the classic forms of architecture introduced by the Society of Jesus, otherwise known as the Jesuits. This chapel has carved and gilded columns and wood-carved floral decorations. The floor of the church is laid with the finest marble and was inlaid with precious stones. This is where the relics of the saint are kept. The Basilica also contains a modern art gallery with paintings depicting various Biblical scenes.

The Basilica of Bom Jesus is an architectural marvel and a fine example of Baroque architecture. This monumental masterpiece is made up of black granite. It stands at 61 feet tall and has pillars intricately carved out of basalt. The interior architecture of the church has been encouraged by the Mosaico-Corinthian style.
In the church, there is an altar flanked by two chapels and a tower located at the back of the church. The right side has the platform of St. Anthony while on the left side there is a grand wooden statue of St. Francis Xavier.
