Madurai is one of the ancient cities in India and its history dates back to the pre-Christian era. There are numerous Historical Monuments in Madurai and some of them are in their ruins. The Sangam Rulers were the first to establish their supremacy in this vicinity and raise Madurai to the height of a heritage city. Afterwards the Vijaynagar Emperors took over the empire and the kingdom afterwards passed over to the Nayakas. They were also the able rulers of the empire.

Thirumalai Nayak Mahal: The Thirumalai Nayak Mahal is the best specimen of the Indo-Saracenic form of architecture and had been constructed in 1523 BC. It had been conceived by Lord Nappiere in the year 1866-72 and later numerous renovations were made in order to make the Thirumalai Nayak Mahal a wonderful tourist attraction on the City of Nectar, known as Madurai.

The renowned Light and Sound Show still attracts the tourists not only from every nook and corner of the country but also from abroad. All these acoustic shows are generally based on the lives of Tirumalai Nayak. There are gardens and many halls inside the Tirumalai Nayak Mahal.
