Mattancherry Dutch Palace

Renovated by the Dutch in 1663, Mattancherry Dutch Palace is among the most popular and iconic buildings to visit in Kochi. Put up by the Portuguese in 1557. The palace is designed in the style of a typical Kerala-style mansion, Nalukettu (residence of the upper classes). The elegant architecture and the palace’s magnificent murals attract many history buffs to this place.

The entire two-storied palace building boasts several murals exhibiting the themes taken from Indian epics – Ramayana and Mahabharata and about Hindu gods, particularly Guruvayurappan. Moreover, other attractive murals depict scenes from Kumarasambhavam and the great works of Kalidasa.

There is also a small temple dedicated to Palayannur Bhagwati in the palace’s central courtyard and two other shrines dedicated to Lord Krishna and Shiva. You also get to see some fantastic attire, turbans, and weapons, offering you a glimpse of the lifestyle of royal families.

Mattancherry Dutch Palace Timings

The Mattancherry Dutch Palace in Kochi is open all days of the week from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, except Fridays. A few kilometers away from the mainland, the palace can be easily accessed by hired taxis or cars.

Mattancherry Dutch Palace Entry Fee

The Mattancherry palace entry fees are just 2 rupees for adults. There is no entrance fee for children under the age of 15 years.
