The Kadambas, The Gangas and Badami Chalukyas were some of the leading rulers to set their dynasty in Karnataka. The empire of the Rastrakutas, Kalyana Chalukyas, Sevunas, Hoysalas and the Vijayanagaras set new foray for the state.
The Marathas came to have control over the northern districts of Karnataka after the fall of the Mughals in Karnataka. They were considered to be the latest rulers from India to have set victory in the soil of Karnataka. Karnataka came under British rule after the overthrow of Tipu Sultan, in 1799 and the Marathas in 1818. After having been subjected to a number of administrations during the British rule, Karnataka became a single consolidated state in 1956.
