Day 4:

Maldives – Colombo – Kandy

Enjoy your breakfast and proceed to the next stage of the Sri Lanka and Maldives holidays. Get an assisted speed boat transfer to the airport for a flight to Sri Lanka. After arriving at the airport in Colombo, get transferred to Kandy. Visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage en route. Later, in the late evening, enjoy a cultural show in Kandy featuring traditional Kandyan dance and music. An overnight stay at a hotel in Kandy follows this. The verdant hills of Kegalle envelop Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage.

This orphanage is one of a kind, where the baby elephants weigh 60 kgs or more. This orphanage is the world’s first and only elephant orphanage established to feed, nurse, and house young elephants lost or abandoned by their mothers. The other occupants are those displaced from their natural environs by development projects or those found in a wounded condition. Here, the visitors can watch the baby elephants being fed milk from gigantic bottles or being bathed in the rivers that flow nearby, creating an unforgettable sight and a wonderful experience. This orphanage, established in 1975 by the Wildlife Department and National Zoological Gardens, has subsequently developed into a breeding program through which more than twenty-five elephants have been born since 1984.

Day 5:

Kandy

Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel and set off for a city tour of Kandy. The covered sights include the Temple of Tooth Relic and the Royal Botanical Garden, which houses a vast collection of exotic plants and flowers. Stay overnight at a hotel in Kandy. Kandy is a lovely exotic city and also serves as the hill capital of Sri Lanka. This beautiful place, which was the last stronghold of the Sinhala kings, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It has retained its aura of grandeur, which time has not affected. It is enveloped by hills, with a serene lake at its center; it’s home to one of the most renowned temples, which enshrines the Tooth Relic of the Buddha, and the Royal Botanical Gardens, which displays the world’s best collection of orchids. Kandy can be defined as a cultural sanctuary where numerous legends, folklore, and traditions are still kept alive.

Kandy, as well as its satellite villages, are the center of the islands’ handicraft industry (which is mainly focused on items of wood, brass, and silver), exquisite silver or gold jewelry, and precious gems of many varieties, including the world’s best blue and star sapphires. One of the city’s main attractions is the Esala Perahera, where a replica of the casket enclosing the Tooth is taken in procession for ten glittering nights in July/August by exotically costumed dances, drummers and approximately 100 elephants.

Day 6:

Kandy – Colombo

Post breakfast, head out for a city shopping tour of Colombo, where you can explore local markets and modern shopping malls. Bring home beautiful memories of the Sri Lanka Maldives tour. An overnight stay at a hotel in Colombo follows this. Colombo is Sri Lanka’s trade and commercial capital, and as such, it has served as the traditional gateway to the Orient. Sri Lanka’s commercial capital and capital city are located on the west coast.

It attracts different cultures, religions, and influences from foreign lands, creating a potpourri of sounds, smells, and colors. Throughout the years, the original settlers and traders, like the Arabs, Portuguese, Dutch, and British, have left behind the imprints of their legacy in the form of churches and monuments, names and religions, costumes and food, and a smattering of their languages which have been absorbed into the daily lifestyle of the typical Sri Lankan. Colombo holds several attractions, is a unique amalgamation of East and West, past and present, and possesses a unique charm.

This exciting and happening city also has a superb range of high-quality restaurants serving food from all over the world and some of the best shopping opportunities in Asia. It’s also home to the leading seaport in Sri Lanka and lies Pettah, a local bazaar and trading area adjacent to it. Some of the other places of interest are the beautiful Buddhist temples, Hindu temples, mosques, the historic Wolfendhal church, which was built in 1749, and residential areas where one comes across the majestic homes of the affluent, the Ceramic Corporation, which is famous for its well-known brand “Noritake” and ODEL, the renowned shopping center.
