According to popular folklore, Raja Jagat Singh was responsible for the death of a Brahmin family in the Tipri Village. The Brahmin set fire to his own house after the king had sent his men to bring pearls from the Brahmin. To pay for his sins, the king sought the help of a saint, Shri Kishan Dass Ji at Naggar. With his advice, Raja Jagat Singh embraced Vaishnava and went to Ayodhya to bring the idol of Lord Rama, now the principal deity of the Kullu Valley.

The Bhuntar Airport is around 9 km from the main town of Kullu. There are flight services to this airport from Shimla, Delhi, and Chandigarh.
