Nako Gompa

Nako Monastery Himachal Pradesh

The Nako Monastery is among the most visited Buddhist centers in Himachal Pradesh. It is a repository of ancient murals and Buddhist paintings dating back to the 11th century. The unique monastic architecture comprises four temples and other buildings within a single complex. Its exteriors exude a Victorian simplicity, while its interiors are a sharp contrast.

How to reach the Nako Monastery

There are various gateways to the Nako Monastery. The nearest railhead at Shimla is around 250 km away from the Nako hamlet. Regular buses are plying from Shimla to Kinnaur. You need to get an Inner Line Permit after arriving at Kaza or Shimla. There is another route via Reckong Peo.
