Langza Village is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Spiti region of Himachal Pradesh. This is a tiny hamlet, 16 km north of Kaza, and is at an altitude of 4325 m above sea level. Its charming scenery, prehistoric buildings, and old monasteries are major attractions. The village is enveloped by snow-capped peaks, green meadows, and barren plains, offering some beautiful views. Highlights

Langza hamlet is segregated into 2 parts- Langza Gongma (upper), and Langza Yongma (lower). The village is home to around 137 people whose main livelihood is business and agriculture. The village locals are known to produce vessels in all sizes and shapes and different crafts like carpets, shawls, etc., for extra earnings. There is also an ancient temple or Lang, known to be the headquarters of all the Deities of the Valley.

Langza gets covered with thick snow and gets disconnected from the nearby region. During the winter, the temperatures can go below zero when doing even the necessary daily chores becomes difficult. However, once the snow melts, the whole area turns lush and beautiful.

Attractions

The village is guarded by a massive statue of Lord Buddha, an old monastery, and many mud houses worth visiting. The temple behind the statue is said to be over 500 years old. In addition, you can opt for a hike to some of the high-altitude lakes around the village. Langza also offers opportunities for trekking and mountaineering.

The village is also a popular site for being a treasure house of fossils of plants and marine animals found in the region millions of years ago. Thus, the village also attracts anthropologists and geologists every year. It is said that the Spiti valley had submerged in the Tethys Sea millions of years ago, whose prehistoric proofs can also be seen in Langza. These fossils are around 100 -million years old and are around a half-hour walk away. Therefore, the place is frequently visited by historians.
