Perched at an altitude of 4205 m above sea level, located 18 km from Kaza and 8 km from Ki, Kibber village boasts of being the highest inhabited village in the world with a motorable road that also has its polling station at the time of elections. It would be best if you drove past Key Monastery to arrive at this tiny peaceful hamlet. The scenery of Kibber looks similar to the other nearby villages like Hikkim, Komic, and Langshu.

One of the most beautiful destinations in the Spiti Valley, Kibber is ideal for several activities such as short treks to places such as Chichum (2-3 hours), villages like Gete and Tashigang, a visit to the Ker Monastery, a trek to Tso Moriri lake in Ladakh, and a hike up the Dangmachan peak (5157 m), right above the village for some mesmerizing views. In addition, there is an old temple in Kibber with a giant prayer wheel inside.

The main source of livelihood for people here is agriculture and other businesses, including crafts such as weaving. Houses in Kibber are typical Tibetan-style of architecture. There are around 70 houses with white walls and red rooftops. Besides, the village has only a few shops here that sell essential commodities.

Best Time to Visit Kibber

Kibber village is only accessible in the summer months, from April to October, as during the winter, like other parts of the valley, it stays disconnected due to heavy snowfall.

How to reach Kibber

In summers, public buses are available from Kaza twice a day (morning and evening). Shared taxis are also available. The high school in this village is also one of the world’s highest schools.
