Famed as one of the most prominent festivals in Kullu, Dusshera is celebrated in the region for seven long days. It starts on the tenth day of the rising moon, also known as Vijay Dashmi, in October.

The trend of the Kullu Dusshera festival started a long time back in the 17th century when King Jaganand installed an idol of Lord Rama on his throne. It later culminated in the consecration of the idol as the ruling God of the valley. Since then, the town of Kullu has been giving particular emphasis to this festival.
