A large artificial man-made lake, Hamirsar Lake lies in the middle of the town of Bhuj. This water body is named after Rao Hamir, the founder of Bhuj who ruled here 450 years old. It was developed by making tunnels and canals and then bringing them together, forming 3 river systems so that the water needs of Bhuj could be met.

Hamirsar Lake is spread over an area of 28 acres and has wonderful surroundings. In the center of the lake is a beautiful well-maintained gardens. The place is quite popular amid tourists as well as locals as a picnic spot. Take a walk or simply relax under the shade of trees. Locals can be seen here during mornings and evenings. Swimming is another popular activity here.

Augun is a festival at Hamirsar in Kutch organized at the time when the lake overflows due to rains. The festivities are being organized from ancient times when the King used to perform a Puja, following distribution of Megh laddoos to the people. The festival is about thanking the God and welcoming the new waters in the lake.
