A wonderful creation in the Indo-Islamic style of architecture, Teen Darwaza is one of the prominent sightseeing options in Ahmedabad. The structure is next to the renowned Bhadra Fort and is the oldest and longest Gateway to the city. Earlier, this structure of arched gateways, beautifully carved pillars, and walls was used as an entrance to the fort. However, today, it flaunts a significance of its own. One unique fact that justifies this statement firmly is the eternal lamp placed in one of the structure’s cavities. This lamp has been continuously lit up for more than five hundred years. A Muslim family continues the traditional light in a lit position, which is done in dedication to a legend involving the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi.

History of Teen Darwaza

The structure is known to have been built by Sultan Ahmed Shah in the year 1411 AD. It is said that King Jahangir used to cross around this Teen Darwaja to the procession from this structure to the Jama masjid.
