The word "Dabbawala" can be interpreted as "box-carrier" or "lunchpail-man". In Marathi and Hindi, "dabba" means a box (usually a cylindrical aluminium container More specifically, the word dabbawala implies a person in the Indian city of Mumbai who carries and delivers freshly made food from home in lunch boxes to office workers.
The concept of the dabbawala came into being when a person named Mahadeo Havaji Bachche started the lunch delivery service with about a hundred men. At the present time, Indian businessmen are the main customers for the dabbawalas, and the service often includes both cooking and delivery.
10:00 Hrs: Drive to the Church gate Railway Station, where they will see the Dabbawala’s boarding the Dabbas in the wooden carte in the Train. Now the guests will escorted towards the platform to board the Local Train for Maha Laxmi Station. Local Train are the major means of transport in Mumbai.
11:00 Hrs: Guests arrives at Maha Laxmi Station. The station is situated next to municipal Dhobi Ghats at Mahalakshmi, on the suburb of Mumbai. Most of the Dabba walas get down at Mahalaxmi Station, all the Offices are close to this railway station. Here the Dabbawals sorting out their Tiffin boxes as per the area wise. Brief introduction here with the dabbawala’s and their exact arrangements how the tiffin's are coded and distributed at the right place at the right time.
12:30 - 13:00 Hrs: Drive Straight to Chruchgate Station. At this Stage the Dabbawalas taking out their dabba carriages and carry them on their head to one place where they do the re – arrangement of tiffins as per the destination area and building. In the particular areas like Nariman point, Maker Chambers with high density of customers, a special crate is dedicated to the area. This Crate carries 150 Tiffins and driven by 3- 4 Dabba walas.
13:30 Hrs: Here the guest will meet these dabawallas and interact with them, they are very keen to welcome us.
